A Great Witnessing Tool With a Different Approach

Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort have teamed up to produce what I think is a great witnessing tool. May authors use the approach that accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life will make you feel happy and fulfilled in this life. Instead, Cameron and Comfort use the Old Testament Law (10 Commandments) to show how EVERYONE at some point and time in their life has broken at least one of the commandments and is danger of God's judgement. Additionally, the emphasis is also on the next life since we will spend far more time in heaven or hell than here on earth.

We had this course taught at our church and the basic class format is as follows: go over what we learned from the previous week's assignment, watch the DVD that goes with the book, discuss the DVD, and go over next week's assignment.

The book's chapters are as follows:

1. Cultivating Compassion for the Lost.

2. Discovering Hell's Best Kept Secret.

3. Learning to Overcome Fear.

4. Practicing What You Preach.

5. Crafting the Message.

6. Answering the Top Ten Questions.

7. Exposing the Myth of the Modern Message.

An Interesting and Fun Historical fiction account

This book describes the intriguing possibility of a lost treasure being hidden on Oak Island, Nova Scotia and the effort of a foreigner trying to find the treasure. This effort requires the help of local Acadian settlers of Nova Scotia. The adventure and romance that follows and the war of the British on the people in these parts in the wake of that adventure creates a wonderful panorama of what life was probably like for these people. A Fun Read!!!

Computer Systems examines the key elements of all computer systems using an integrated approach that treats hardware and software as part of the same, larger system. Students gain important insights into the interplay between hardware and software and leave the course with a better understanding of a modern computer system

About the Author

Dr. Umakishore Ramachandran received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1986 under the direction of Marvin Solomon. Since then he has been with Georgia Tech (home of the yellow jackets), where he is currently a Professor in the Core Computing Division in the College of Computing. His research interests are in the area of architectural design, programming, and analysis of parallel and distributed systems. At Georgia Tech, he has been involved in the design and evaluation of several large experimental systems including Clouds, Beehive, and Stampede (joint with Compaq Cambridge Research Lab), and studying their scalability from an applications perspective. Currently, in the ubiquitous presence project, he is investigating software and hardware mechanisms for ubiquitous distributed computing for an environment comprised of distributed sensors, embedded data concentrators, and backend clusters. He received a Presidential Young Investigator (PYI) Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 1990, the Georgia Tech Doctoral Thesis Advisor award in 1993, the College of Computing Outstanding Senior Research Faculty award in 1996, the College of Computing Dean's Award in 2003, and the College of Computing William "Gus'' Baird Teaching Award in 2004.

William D. "Bill" Leahy, Jr. is currently working as a lecturer at Georgia Tech teaching introductory Computer Science. Bill earned his MS in Computer Science, from Georgia Institute of Technology, his MS in Ceramic Engineering, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a BS in Ceramic Engineering, from Virginia Tech. This is a phenomenal book.
It helps you understand everything through real-world examples, which is an enormous help when dealing with such a complicated topic. Incredibly interesting and well-written, this book comes highly recommended by me and all my peers.

Perfect book for the undecided sophomore

The book gives you enough introductory information for you to decide which path to take: are you are a digital hardware enthusiast who has always wondered how an operating system interfaces and commands all the things you can actually see and feel on your board, or will you be an OS hacker who wants to slice and dice, break and/or remake you Linux box, or are you going to be an internetwork specialist who likes to take control of information flow on the intra/Internet. If you use this book effectively (on your own, or part of a course at your college), you'll be building and understanding your own computer system, and also have a good deal of knowledge about computer and other device networks, by the end of it. In short, an excellent material full of fundamental information to have as a computer engineer/scientist.

Decent but definitely skimps on detail in some areas

The book is pretty good for someone who wants a broad overview of computer architecture and OS topics. It is readable and conveys a basic amount of information about each subject. But if you are the type of reader who stops to think about what really must be going on in detail, you'll recognize pretty frequently that the authors do a lot of hand-waving. I understand that they must do this in order to cover all of the topics, but I wish they would be more explicit about when they are doing it.

About the Author
Jason Brubaker began his career in graphic novels in 2011 with the Xeric Award winning reMIND which also got on the Great Graphic Novels for Teens list 2012. He works at Dreamworks Animation in Visual Development on many movies including Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2.

For 7 years and change Jeremy Barlow was an associate editor at Dark Horse Comics, now he writes comic books and video games full time. He lives in Portland, OR with his wife and a house full of cats.

Enjoyable and entertaining

[[VIDEOID:moQDDJPXRXD9PZ]]When I first came across Jason Brubaker's website, reMIND only had a few chapters. Now, it's a printed graphic novel available for sale. 152 pages, nicely bind. That was quick.

The story starts with Sonja who lost her cat Victuals in a mysterious bubbling pool of water. Several days later, Victuals came back a talking cat. The story then explores what happened.

It's a nice and unique story, an action adventure mixed with some surprises. The characters are interesting, not just Victuals but also the others which are introduced.

The art is beautiful with a textural feel that's a good match for the story. The composition is fantastic, panels carefully laid out with purpose and that really aids the storytelling.

The book ends with an inspiring look at the process of making the graphic novel as an independent creator.

Also be sure to check out the reMIND website because there are lots of useful information there, like tips on creating graphic novels or promoting your web comic. While you can actually find the graphic novel available as a free web comic there, it's always cool to support artists who create good comics by getting a physical copy.

For those who have been following his work online, you'll probably get an extra sense of appreciation knowing how much effort this book represents.

I enjoy the book very much.

Amazing comic book but not worth hundreds of dollars, check the website

The comic book has incredible artwork a compelling story and interesting character, definitley worth a read.But it's available from the author's website online and the second printing isn't far off, so i'd suggest against spending hundreds of dollrs for it. I quote the author;

"Also, just so you know, I have been all sold out of reMIND Vol. 1 on Amazon for over a week now. Because of this, there are several computerized stores that are jacking up the price to $200 to $300 for a copy now. I assure you, this is not a good price to pay for the book because I will be reprinting it in several months and selling it again for the cover price. So if you really want a copy, then just join my mailing list and you will be notified when I launch my new Kickstarter (in about 5 months) and you will be able to get the first books off the press."

Great Art, Tough Story for this Reader

I really had a tough time getting immersed in this novel. The strongest aspect here is definitely the artwork. I really love the use of paper textures to make a more traditional look in a market full of plastic looking photoshop airbrushing. The way they bleed through panels unifies the layouts and the compositions are fantastic. That being said, while they're very well done, I don't really see this "new coffee table" scope that Brubaker refers to in the afterword. The inking is energetically visceral yet refined. Color choice and lighting are also expertly implemented. It reminds me of Mignola's Hellboy with it's selective detail and dramatic lighting. I feel like the style difference between Sonja and Victuals clashes, but that's pretty much a personal preference. I definitely love the power and energy in how all of the lizard characters are drawn, as well.

Speaking of the Lizard people, the story of this novel was tough for me to get into. I really thought Sonja would be the main character, but this definitely becomes Victuals' story. I think the shortcomings of the characters made this fantastic story hard for me to get immersed in. I think big fantasy stories like this heavily rely on a clear protagonist to guide the reader, and I feel like I got left behind here. Obviously, other readers were very engrossed in the story and characters, so you should definitely give it a shot if reMIND interests you. Overall, I think Brubaker has a lot to offer as reMIND vol.1 was obviously a very lengthy, intimate and hard won project to achieve. While reMIND was a miss for me, I'm definitely interested in whatever else he has to offer graphic novels.
